Description
Springfield Model 1884, known as the 'Springfield Trapdoor,' was designed as the replacement rifle for the U.S. Armed Forces. The serial number reads '1555...2,' one digit illegible due to corrosion. Proof marks. This rifle features a wooden body and stock, with a plaque affixed on the right side of the stock butt. It reads 'U.S. ARMY -RIFLE MODEL - SPRINGFIELD 1884 CALIBER 45-70.' Above reads the number 21 in a circular plaque with 'ARMY' stamped into the metal butt cover on the end. The barrel length is 32.5 inches long, rifle length is 52 inches long. The hammer of the rifle is bent, and the cocking mechanism is missing its spring. Great piece for any collector looking for display or rebuild.
